Beau Rivage Lauded for Supporting Mississippi Minority-Owned Businesses
BILOXI, Miss. - The Mississippi Minority Business Alliance (MMBA) presented Beau Rivage Resort & Casino with the prestigious Flame Award at its recent 8th Annual Minority Business Expo and Gala.
The Flame Award is given in recognition of and appreciation for exceptional support of minority business efforts in Mississippi. Erik Lewis, director of purchasing, accepted the award for Beau Rivage.
This highly coveted award honors the generous giving of resources, both financial and in-kind. “Beau Rivage’s support greatly exceeds the norm and provides momentum for the growth and stability of Mississippi’s minority business community,” said DeJonnette Grantham-King, chairperson of the MMBA Board. “Beau Rivage’s support lights the flame to a stronger economic climate for the Mississippi business community as a whole. This honor is bestowed because of their commitment and dedication year after year. They are a pioneer in their industry.”
The MMBA is a statewide organization that works to create business opportunities for Mississippi's minority-owned businesses with corporations. It is made up of representatives of minority-owned businesses and representatives of corporations. The MMBA Gala is a celebration of the successes of minority businesses and the support and mentoring from participating corporations. Beau Rivage has been a consistent sponsor of the MMBA and the 2008 gala was the fifth time that Beau Rivage has hosted the event.
MGM MIRAGE formalized its voluntary diversity initiative in 2001. Shortly thereafter, the company adopted a policy requiring minority bid participation in all contracts and purchases exceeding $1,000. Additionally, the company created the Purchasing Diversity Committee, comprised of purchasing directors and buyers companywide, which meets monthly to share ideas and best practices.
