FALLEN OAK RANKED IN GOLF MAGAZINE’S
TOP 10 NEW COURSES YOU CAN PLAY
MGM MIRAGE’S Tom Fazio-Designed Course is a Hit With Players, Writers
BILOXI, Miss. – June 29, 2007 – The early reviews are in, and Fallen Oak, the Tom Fazio-designed masterpiece that opened in November, wasted little time earning praise from golf writers around the country for its unique, picturesque Gulf Coast design and unparalleled service.
Golf Magazine recently selected the MGM MIRAGE course, located 15 minutes outside Biloxi, as one of its “Top 10 New Courses You Can Play.” Golf Magazine’s Joe Passov gave readers of the widely circulated magazine a glimpse into what makes Fallen Oak a special place to enjoy a round of golf.
“Fallen Oak is the Deep South version of Fazio’s Shadow Creek, ushering visitors into a totally different world. The fairways are handsomely framed and are crisscrossed by streams, lakes and wetlands. Perhaps most startling are the elevation changes, almost unheard of for a tract so close to the Gulf Coast,” he wrote.
In the Robb Report’s “Best of the Best” issue, which included Fallen Oak as one of its seven must-play golf resorts, Passov wrote “Picture Shadow Creek drenched in oaks, magnolias and red-eye gravy and you have Fallen Oak… Fairways are bracketed by woods and slashed with ponds, streams and wetlands.”
Passov’s head isn’t the only one being turned by the multi-million dollar course, which features those rare elevation changes and more than 4,000 stately oaks, magnolias, pines and other hardwood trees.
“This may well be an amenity to a resort, but it is no resort course… It is a strong challenge; certainly no pushover and one that will have a lot of people talking, saying some very good things indeed,” wrote Ian Thompson in Southern Golfer Magazine.
“Though the course shares the same designer and the same owner as Shadow Creek, they are vastly different. Shadow Creek is a lush, manufactured oasis. Fallen Oak has a much more natural feel. It’s gently rolling terrain is dotted by ancient oaks, pecan orchards and wetlands... ,” wrote Peter Finch in Golf Digest.
“Fazio’s routing is tough, fair and ‘Oooh, lets’ take a picture here!’ beautiful,” wrote Travis Hill in Golfweek.
“Fallen Oak elevates golf in Biloxi, literally and figuratively. It’s one of the few coastal Mississippi courses with substantial elevation changes, and its mere presence will attract golfers to a place that needs visiting golfers. It’s that good,” wrote Tim McDonald on Travelgolf.com.
“Tom Fazio made a point to illustrate that Fallen Oak is a must-play golfing destination on the Gulf Coast, and we’re quite proud of the fact that people are noticing,” said George Corchis, president and chief operating officer of MGM MIRAGE’s Mississippi resorts, which includes the Beau Rivage in Biloxi and the Gold Strike Casino Resort in Tunica. “Fallen Oak is a course that golfers will want to experience at least once in their lives because it’s a course that challenges every element of your game as it welcomes you with its beauty.”
Joining the heralded Shadow Creek as the only golf courses built by MGM MIRAGE for their guests, Fallen Oak is located on a 510-acre tract at the edge of the DeSoto National Forest, 15 miles north of Beau Rivage.
From the moment guests enter the lush and picturesque course through the gated front entrance, they know they are someplace special. With a personal greeting upon arrival, swing tips on the practice facility, exceptional caddy service, and on-course food and beverage, Beau Rivage guests find a round at Fallen Oak that delivers an experience that is memorable and unrivaled in the region.
Stretching to a hearty 7,487 yards from the back tees, Fallen Oak offers golfers five sets of tees and strategic play options as each hole winds through ever-changing terrain and environments.
The clubhouse and practice facilities alone put Fallen Oak among the top courses in the region. Built to resemble an Acadian-style Southern mansion, the 12,000-square foot clubhouse houses a 1,000-square foot pro shop and locker facilities. The 70-seat lounge and restaurant features top-level dining and panoramic views of the 18th hole and majestic live oak that gives Fallen Oak its name.
Fallen Oak is available exclusively for guests of Beau Rivage. Greens fees for this elite MGM MIRAGE golf experience begin at $200. To make reservations, call (877) 805-4657 or visit www.beaurivage.com.
